SANYO announces 3 additional ENERGY STAR compliant models and becomes ENERGY STAR Partner

(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 12, 2008 ) SANYO Commercial Solutions, a division of SANYO North America Corporation announces that due to new multi split and VRF testing, three additional models are now ENERGY STAR qualified. Equipment that meets these standards allows homeowners and building owners to take Federal Tax credit for having high efficiency equipment installed. Products that earn the ENERGY STAR rating use less energy and prevent greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy. With energy costs and global warming top-of-mind for consumers, SANYO is committed to offering solutions that help consumers conserve energy and improve the quality of our environment.

The new models to receive ENERGY STAR qualification are as follows: CM1972, CLM1972, and CMH1972. Achieving ENERGY STAR Tier 2 qualification requires that a model be rated with specifications of at least: 15 SEER, 12.5 EER and 8.5 HSPF for heat pump models. In addition, SANYO HVAC already has 4 models that have met ENERGY STAR qualifications, these include: 09KS71, 09KLS71, 18KS72 and 18KLS72. SANYO HVAC now has a total of 7 units that are ENERGY STAR certified.

Even more exciting, SANYO HVAC has been accepted as an ENERGY STAR Partner. ENERGY STAR works with more than 12,000 public and private sector organizations to improve the energy and financial performance of businesses and manufacture ENERGY STAR labeled products that meet the consumer demand for more environmentally friendly products. ENERGY STAR qualified homes save homeowners up to 30% on their energy bill each year, offer better comfort and health, increased quality, and a large return on investment. ENERGY STAR is recognized by more than 60% of US consumers nationwide and is working to build brand awareness across Europe, Asia and Australia. More information can found at or

HSPF- Heating Season Performance Factor (overall efficiency throughout a heating season)

SEER- Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio is most commonly used to measure the efficiency of a central air conditioner. It measures how efficiently a cooling system will operate over an entire season. The higher the SEER, the more efficient the air conditioner. Technically speaking, SEER is a measure of equipment the total cooling of a central air conditioner or heat pump (in Btu) during the normal cooling season as compared to the total electric energy input (in watt-hours) consumed during the same period
EER- Energy Efficiency Ratio is a measure of how efficiently a cooling system will operate when the outdoor temperature is at a specific level (95 oF). In technical terms, EER is the steady-state rate of heat energy removal (i.e. cooling capacity) by the product measured in Btuh divided by the steady-state rate of energy input to the product measured in watts. This ratio is expressed in Btuh/watt. The higher the EER, the more efficient the air conditioner.
Both SEER and EER are included in the ENERGY STAR specification because each rating indicates the energy efficiency of the product under different operating modes. SEER rating more accurately reflects overall system efficiency on a seasonal basis and EER reflects the system’s energy efficiency at peak day operations. Both ratings are important when choosing a product.
