Metallized Film Market|Market Outlook|Aggregate Insights|Market Forecast to 2026

(EnergyIndustry.Net, October 24, 2019 ) Market Overview:
Metallized films are polymer films coated with a thin layer of metal, usually aluminium. They offer the glossy metallic appearance of an aluminium foil at a reduced weight and cost. Metallized films are widely used for decorative purposes and food packaging, and also for specialty applications including insulation and electronics. Metallization is performed using a physical vapor deposition process. Aluminium is the most common metal used for deposition, but other metals such as nickel or chromium are also used. The metal is heated and evaporated under vacuum. This condenses on the cold polymer film, which is unwound near the metal vapor source.

Market Dynamics:
Rising demand for customer-friendly packaging and Increasing demand for longer shelf life of food products are the major driving factors for the growth of the market. Metallized films are used as a susceptor for cooking in microwave ovens. An example is a microwave popcorn bag. Many food items are also packaged using metallized films for appearance only, as these produce a package with greater sparkle when compared to competing products that use printed paper or polymer films. Companies are launching new products in the market.

However, stringent regulations in different economics on automotive films is the key restraint hindering the growth of the market.

Market Segmentation:
By end use industry, the metallized film market is segmented into packaging, healthcare, electronics, food & beverage, decorative and others. Others include aerospace, insulation and construction.

Packaging industry is expected to hold major market share in the forecast period. Both metallized PET and PP have replaced foil laminates for products such as snack foods, coffee and candy, which do not require the superior barrier of aluminium foil. Metallized nylon and polyethylene are used in the meat export market. The controlled permeation extends shelf life. Companies are focusing to expand their portfolios.

Based on the metal, the market is classified into aluminum, chromium, nickel and copper. On the basis of material used, the market is divided into nylon, polyimide, polyethylene terephthalate, polyethylene, polypropylene, polycarbonate and others. Others include thermoplastic polyurethane. Based on the metal, the market is classified into aluminum, chromium, nickel and copper.
