Dental Assistant Salary Expected to Go Up Says Bureau of Labor Statistics

(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 08, 2011 ) New York, NY -- In the US, the dental assistant salary is quite amazing. The average hourly rate that a dental assistant makes is between $9.00 and $19.00 and the average overtime it is between $11.00 and $28.00. However, these are just estimates and other dental assistants earn more or even less than that. There are other interesting statistics about dental assistant salary in the US.

According to the statistics, 50% of professionals working as assistants earn an average income between $29,000 and $38,000 every year. 30% of the other half earns less than $29,000 while 20% of the other half makes more than $39,000 a year. Based on the figures it can be concluded that dental assistant salary is definitely decent.

But as mentioned, a dental assistant salary would vary. There are a lot of factors that affect a dental assistant salary and one of them is location. A dental assistant salary varies according to city and state. For example, dental assistants in California earn an average hourly rate of $13.00. In New York, a dental assistant can make $15.00 per hour. The bottom line is it is different from city to city but on average a dental assistant salary is higher in major cities where the cost of living is more expensive.

Location is the number one key factor that affects dental assistant salary. The dental assistant working in a dental clinic located in urban areas received higher salaries. The fact behind this is that dentists located in urban areas earn more than dentists working in rural areas. In conclusion, the dentists in urban areas are capable of paying higher salaries to their dental assistants.

Other factors that affect dental assistant salary are the kind of task the dental assistant is assigned or performing. Most dental assistants ensure that there is a smooth flow of the dental procedure. Aside from that, the dental assistantÂ’s experience, teaching and work setting are also factors that can affect how much a dental assistant makes.

A dental assistantÂ’s salary would vary according to the type of job they are engaged to. A dental assistant can only perform a certain job after completing certain training. A typical training for a certain dental assistant job would require a year or lower to complete. A dental assistant can have a higher salary if he or she undertakes a special coaching. The coaching will make sure that the dental assistant will have higher earnings.
