Scintillation Counters Market Share, Size, Evaluation by 2028

(EnergyIndustry.Net, November 05, 2021 )

Market Overview
A Scintillation counter is a solid-state radiation detector that uses a scintillation crystal (phosphor) to detect radiation and produce light pulses. It functions over the emission of light flashes which gets detected by a photomultiplier or PIN Diode.

Apart from detecting the presence of a particle, gamma-ray or X-ray, scintillation counters can also measure the energy loss of the particle in the scintillating medium. Scintillation counters are used since they can be made at a low cost. They give good quantum efficiency and can determine both the energy and strength of the incident radiation.

Market Dynamics
The global scintillation counters market is mainly driven by the highest safety concerns after many nuclear accidents and disasters. Moreover, the increase in security for the homelands and the expansion of nuclear plants are expected to rise the demand for scintillation counters.

Besides, advancements in radiographic system technology, as well as increasing incidents of chronic diseases, are expected to boost the market in the forecast period. The growing use of C.T or PET scans in medical treatments is boosting the demand of the market. A PET scan is used in the fields of cardiology, psychiatry, and neurology.

Cancer cells need high-intensity radiation after the PET scan where the physicians can get the images of the cancer tumor. The key focus on product development concerning the various applications mentioned above are high resolution, cost, and size.

However, the high initial cost of implementation and interference in the energy transfer process is acting as restricting factors for market growth.

Competitive Landscape
The global scintillation counters market is fragmented in nature with the presence of many formulators. GE Healthcare Life Sciences, Hitachi Metals America Ltd., Scintacor, CANBERRA Industries Inc., PerkinElmer Inc., AMETEK, Inc., Toshiba Materials Co., Ltd., Energy Beam Sciences, Inc., John Caunt Scientific Ltd., and Toshiba Materials Co., Ltd. are key players in the market among others.

Emphasis is given on the expansion, merger, acquisition, and partnership of the companies along with new product development as strategic approaches adopted by the leading companies to boost their brand presence among consumers. For instance, in January 2018, John Caunt Scientific Ltd. held a scintillation detectors event at partner Scionix. This event included radiation sensing & measurement.

This workshop covered scintillation detector design and optimization along with new emerging scintillator technologies. This event created brand awareness for the company.
