Following Ratification of U.S. Steel Contract, Attorneys Want to Hear from USW Retirees

(EnergyIndustry.Net, November 21, 2012 ) New York, NY – The attorneys working with ClassAction.org would like to hear from retired United Steelworkers (USW) members who were employed by United States Steel Corp. It is believed that these individuals may have had their rights affected after the company’s USW-represented workers ratified new three-year collective bargaining agreements. According to reports, U.S. Steel stated that the agreements provide for certain benefit adjustments for not only future retirees, but also those that previously retired. The attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking to determine whether these current retirees’ health benefits have been adversely affected under these new agreements. For more information, please visit http://www.classaction.org/union-retiree-health-benefits.html today.

Reportedly, one of the new agreements affects 16,000 employees in Ohio and Alabama who work at the company’s domestic flat-rolled and iron ore mining facilities and tubular operations. Approximately 1,000 workers at a subsidiary’s welded tubular products facility in Texas are covered by the second agreement. The agreements contain no-strike clauses and allow for a 2% wage increase on Sept. 1, 2013 and a 2.5% wage increase on Jan. 1, 2015. The agreements are set to expire on Sept. 1, 2015.

The attorneys working with ClassAction.org believe that, in certain instances, unions and companies cannot negotiate new contracts which cut the benefits of members who retired under previous labor agreements. In light of the recent contract ratification, ClassAction.org would like to hear from any USW retiree who believes their health benefits may have been affected. For more information, please visit ClassAction.org today.
