Study shows Most iPhone Accidents Happen in the Home reports My iBroke

(EnergyIndustry.Net, November 18, 2012 ) Lake Park, FL -- According to a survey published in October, the most dangerous place to keep your iPhone is at home. The study showed that 51%, of all iPhone accidents happened within the home. The same study showed that a phone is 10-times more likely to suffer accidental damage than to be stolen or lost.

The most dangerous places for your iPhone at home are the kitchen, living room, and bathroom. The most dangerous person to have your iPhone? You. The study, SquareTrade Device Danger Zone, also indicated that a phone’s owner is its worst enemy, accounting for 69% of all damage.

A total of 5% of these abusive phone owners have even subjected their precious electronic device to the agitating horrors of the washing machine. Another 9% of users have submerged their iTunes in the toilet, and 6% have driven away with their long-suffering phone still sitting on top of their cars.

At home, 21% of accidents occurred in the kitchen, 18% in the living room, and only 8% occurred in the bedroom. Water wrecked 43% of phones, soda stickily-sabotaged 19%, beer besmirched 12%, tea totaled the same number, and coffee’s 12% on one of the lowest accident markers.

SquareTrade estimates that Americans have spent nearly $6 billion repairing their iPhones since 2007 and that owners are 1000% more likely to break the phone themselves that have it stolen by a stranger.

Nearly a third of iPhone owners have experienced phone damage in the last year, and 17% have damaged a previous iPhone more than once. Do-it-yourself repairs are not unknown, as 11% of owners admitted to applying tape to the phone to keep it from falling apart and an additional 11% made due with the phone even after the screen had cracked.
